Getting to the Oslofjord Cruise Piers

Two destinations, not four. Rådhusbrygge 2, 3 and 4 sit together on the waterfront directly in front of Oslo City Hall, so if you can find the City Hall you have found all three. Langkaia is the other one: on the Bjørvika side, beside the Opera House and Central Station, about a kilometre east and roughly a quarter of an hour on foot along the harbour. To the City Hall quays

Aim for the City Hall and walk through to the water. The three quays are numbered on the waterfront in front of it, a minute apart, and the numbering is legible from a distance. From Central Station it is a straightforward walk west along the harbour front. Allow more time than the map says in July, when the whole waterfront is full of people going nowhere in particular.

To Langkaia

Langkaia is the easy one if you arrive by train and the hard one if you have spent your morning at the other end of the harbour. Come out of Central Station towards the Opera House and keep going to the water. If you are starting from the City Hall instead, walk east along the waterfront and give it about a quarter of an hour. Insider tip

The walk between the City Hall quays and Langkaia is flat, obvious and along the water, so there is no navigation problem. The problem is that people assume it is two minutes because both are “the harbour”. It is not two minutes.

Arriving with luggage, or with a pram

All four quays are at street level on a flat waterfront, which makes the walk itself easy with wheels. What varies is the boat rather than the pier: three of the six cruises are wheelchair accessible and one of those has a lift on board, while the six-hour island trip is explicitly not wheelchair accessible, involves walking and climbing on the islands, and requires under-15s to be with an adult.
